Price: $150,000 Square Miles Conserved: 6.25
The drawing is currently being sold as part of Zaria’s current exhibition, Overview, at Winston Wächter Fine Art in New York. 100% of the sale price will purchase and conserve rainforest acreage at about $150 per acre. This work triggers 300% in matching funds from private foundations; it will create $600,000 in total funds for conservation. The collector will receive a parcel map of the conserved acres and will be supported in a trip to the location.
33% of the sale price is tax deductible.
Forman contributed this drawing from her personal collection to the 2018 Global Wildlife Conservation benefit with Christie’s auction house. All proceeds from the sale will help purchase and conserve the last large, unprotected cloud forests in Central America. Global Wildlife Conservation is donating their travel, legal and administrative time, with the on the ground assistance of local partners Fundaeco and Cloud Forest Conservation Initiative.
The benefit includes leading contemporary artists such as Rashid Johnson, Cindy Sherman, Robert Longo, Anish Kapoor and Ed Ruscha, as well as major works that mark the first auction appearance for emerging artists such as Loie Hollowell, Max Hooper Schneider, Ben Thorp Brown and Elizabeth Jaeger. Global Wildlife Conservation thanks Zaria Forman for this generous donation. One of the most effective ways of slowing climate shifts is to keep old growth tropical forests intact. Join Zaria in this effort to protect our wildlands.
"THE REMOTE REGIONS I DRAW ARE THE KEYSTONES OF CLIMATE CHANGE BUT ARE INACCESSIBLE TO MOST PEOPLE. I DRAW AS MUCH PRECISE DETAIL AS I CAN IN ORDER TO TRANSPORT THE VIEWER TO A PLACE THAT IS OTHERWISE DISTANT AND ABSTRACT. I CONVEY THE BEAUTY OF THESE VULNERABLE LANDSCAPES, AS OPPOSED TO THEIR DEVASTATION, TO INSPIRE VIEWERS TO HELP PROTECT AND PRESERVE THEM." -ZARIA FORMAN
Thank you to Christie’s and Winston Wächter Fine Art for the exceptional support.
